Kolhapuri Bhadang, Murmura,Spicy Puffed Rice Chivda, Kurmura Chivda


Hey Foodies,

Bhadang is a spicy roasted (non-fried) snack made with with Kurmura, Murmura or Puffed Rice. It has protein-rich peanuts & roasted chana dal with fiery red chilli powder which is balanced with sugar making it a tikha meetha kurkura snack.




Spicy puffed rice is a popular snack throughout India and is known by various names such as Murmura Chivda, Sukha Bhel,Dry Bhel,Bhadang,khara pori,masala pori, Kadle puri,Mandakki churmuri etc.



Whats in a name .. Just enjoy this low calorie snack if on diet or not. It is so quick & easy that you can whip up a batch on an afternoon for chatpata evening snacks.

Recipe Card:

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes


Ingredients:

1/4 cup Oil/Tel

2 tsp Mustard Seeds/Rai

2 tsp Cumin Seeds/Jeera

1 cup Roasted Peanuts/Groundnuts/Shengdane

1/2 cup Roasted Chana Daal/Phutane

1 tsp Asafoetida/Hing

2 tsp Red Chilli/Lal Mirch Powder

Salt/Namak as per taste

2 tsp Powdered Sugar/Shakkar

250 g Puffed Rice/Kurmura/Murmure


Method:

1. Turn on rice cooker on "Cook" mode. Alternatively, you can make this recipe in thick bottomed kadhai.

2. Heat oil thoroughly. Add Mustard seeds. They should be added in hot oil only. Otherwise,

they taste bitter in final product & ruin your dish. Let them splutter properly.

3. Add cumin seeds & curry leaves.

4. You can add 12-15 cloves of grushed Garlic/Lehsan for garlicky flavor.

5.Add roasted groundnuts & chana daal & saute for 3-4 minutes.

6. Roast the peanuts & chana dal beforehand to ensure that they don't remain under-cooked.

They should be properly browned & crunchy to eat.

7. Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, red chilli powder & salt & mix well.

8. Add powdered sugar and mix well. Keep the flame low so asnot to burn the masalas.

9. Sieve the puffed rice atleast twice to remove any rice powder or dust particles & add it to the mixture.

10. Mix well to coat all the masalas to the Kurmura. Mix in upside down motion

11. Spicy Kolhapuri Bhadang is ready.

12. You can make it in any large vessel on gas or induction or in microwave.

13. Store in airtight containers up to a month
